Selena Gomez
spends night with Union J star
Selena Gomez reportedly spent the night with George Shelley.
The 'Come and Get It' singer partied with British boy band Union J after they performed with her at a recent show in Portugal, and it is said 'things got very heated' between the pair.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: 'She invited all the Union J boys and some other members of her entourage to her room and they had a great time drinking and dancing.
'Selena and George were all over each other and things got very heated.
'Everyone else left the room at 2am so they were able to spend the night together.'
The 20-year-old singer missed the band's flight back to London the next morning, but it is said the rest of the group were very understanding.
The insider added: 'Nobody was annoyed with George. After all, he's being pursued by one of the biggest pop stars in the world - it's any lad's dream come true.'
The pair's meeting was arranged after Selena admitted she had a crush on George in a recent interview, and she then booked the band for her show.

Lady Gaga hits back at former assistant
The 'Applause' hitmaker is being sued by her ex-best friend Jennifer O'Neill, who claims the singer owes her $380,000 in overtime payments because she had to spend 24 hours a day with her and share the same bed during 'The Monster Ball' tour in 2010.
The 27-year-old star has submitted a 200-page witness statement, obtained by the Mail on Sunday newspaper, to give her side of the story, in which she explains that she rewards her hardworking staff with perks rather than overtime pay.
She said: 'I am quite wonderful to everyone that works for me. I am going to tell you exactly what ******* happened, so that the judge can read on this transcript exactly what's going on, which is my ex-best friend is a ******* hood rat who is suing me for money that she didn't earn. The job was essentially a favour, and Jennifer was majorly unqualified for it.'
Lady Gaga also claims that personal assistants are rarely paid overtime in the entertainment industry.
Jennifer previously testified that she felt it was a 'required' part of her job to sleep with her employer.
She said: 'I was by her side virtually 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That includes sleeping in the same bed with her. Because she did not sleep alone.'
She added: 'Unlike anybody else on that tour, I did not have my own hotel room. I was not asked if I wanted my own hotel room.'
The court case is set to begin on November 4 in New York City and could have landmark repercussions for entertainment industry employees.

Is January Jones liaison behind Liam-Miley split?
Washington: Liam Hemsworth was reportedly pursuing `Mad Men`s
January Jones, while his relationship with his 20-year-old fiancee
crumbled in recent months.
A source told Us magazine that Jones thinks that `The Hunger Games` actor is very sexy.
Earlier this summer, Hemsworth had also sent the 35-year-old single mum, a graphic sexual message, which read the he wants to "**** her".
The `Mad Men` star was earlier linked to Miley Cyrus ` former fiancee in February, when the two of them were spotted leaving West Hollywood hotspot, `Chateau Marmont,` together.
A source had then revealed that Jones and Hemsworth were "all over each other" at a house party that night, though the 23-year-old actor denied the rumours.
An insider has admitted that Hemsworth continued to reach out to Jones secretly, and he was consoled by Jones when he complained to her about the `We Can`t stop` singer`s rebellious behavior.

PETA slams Katy Perry's 'Roar' video
Los Angeles: Pop star Katy Perry`s music video `Roar` has been
slammed by PETA for featuring and supposedly exploiting exotic animals.
Perry`s video is an animal-filled frolic through the jungle in which the 28-year-old singer befriends a monkey, showers with the assistance of an elephant and brushes a crocodile`s teeth, reported Radar online.
"Animals used for entertainment endure horrific cruelty and suffer from extreme confinement and violent training methods. They often become stressed and anxious when hauled around and forced into unfamiliar or frightening situations," said Merrilee Burke, PETA spokeswoman.

Rihanna always looks fresh: Katy Perry
Los Angeles: Pop star Katy Perry finds her good friend Rihanna looking fresh and lively most of the time.
Perry, 28, says she wonders what is the secret behind the `Halo` hitmaker`s refreshing looks, reported Ace Showbiz.
"I think that Rihanna always looks so fresh and I`m like, `How do you do that? We all know how much pot you smoke! And you don`t sleep because you are on Instagram at four o`clock in the morning!" Perry said.
The singer had previously revealed that she meditates every day to prepare herself for work.
Perry also thinks 28 is the age to let go of childish things.
"I am 28, and... When you are at the end of your 20s, it is a very important growing time. I think that it is a very important time, when you kind of let go of childish things and accept the wisdom that comes with age. That is exactly where I am now," she said.
While most people scoffed when The Canyons director Paul Schrader compared its troubled star Lindsay Lohon to silver screen goddess Marilyn Monore, they do have at least one thing in common – they've both been immortalised in song by Sir Elton John.
Indeed, exactly 30 years after he penned "Candle In The Wind" as a
tribute to the original Blonde Bombshell, the Rocket Man revealed this
week that the closing title track from his new 31st studio album, The Diving Board, was based on watching the Mean Girls star's descent from talented actress to car-crash TMZ regular. Here's a look at five other songs that have been inspired by celebrities.
Alanis Morissette – "You Oughta Know"
A tour-de-force of angst-ridden alt-rock, "You Oughta Know" transformed the Canadian from a Tiffany-esque teen pop mall queen to the world's biggest banshee. But few would have expected the subject of her fury to have been such an unassuming figure as Uncle Joey from Full House. Despite his initial denials, Dave Coulier finally admitted in 2008 that he was in fact the man who stamped on Morissette's heart after they dated in the early '90s.
Madonna – "Miles Away"
Best-known for possibly the most tacky album cover of all time and a bandwagon jumping collaboration with Timbaland & Timberlake, Madonna's much-maligned 2008 release, Hard Candy, wasn’t always so contrived. Indeed, this gorgeously melancholic electro-ballad was possibly one of the most honest and autobiographical songs of the Material Girl's career as she poured her heart out over the hardships of maintaining a long-distance relationship with now ex-husband Guy Ritchie.
Carly Simon – "You’re So Vain"
Long before Taylor Swift turned the concept of 'blind gossip' into an art form, singer-songwriter Carly Simon got all the tabloids talking when she assassinated a former boyfriend's character on "You’re So Vain." Mick Jagger, Warren Beatty and James Taylor's names have all been thrown into the ring as possible suspects. But only Simon and the man who paid $50,000 to discover the answer back in 2003 appears to really know who the guilty party is.
R.E.M. - "Man On The Moon"
Seven years before they wrote "The Great Beyond" for the Jim Carrey-starring biopic of the same name, R.E.M. paid tribute to the late cult comedian Andy Kaufmann with this enduring hit from Automatic For The People. Referencing everything from the Taxi star's flawless Elvis impersonation to his work with wrestlers Fred Blassie and Jerry Lawler, the track was named so due to the moon-landing style conspiracy theories surrounding his 1984 death.
Annie – "Me Plus One"
Taken from her 2004 debut, Anniemal, "Me Plus One" saw Norwegian starlet Annie narrate the real-life moment when Geri Halliwell locked herself in a car with producer Richard X after discovering that he'd given the song she desperately wanted to record to former S Club 7 member Rachel Stevens instead. Also sampling the barks of the former Spice Girl's dog Harry, this insanely catchy slice of electropop undoubtedly ranks as one of the more bizarre celebrity odes.
He said he'd be back. That venerable source for every unconfirmed movie rumor imaginable, Latino Review, has another doozy that sounds like it just might fit. They're claiming
James Cameron's longtime friend and sometime Terminator Arnold
Schwarzenegger has signed on to play the villain in Avatar 2,
due for release in 2016. The glowering musclebound baddie in the first
film was played by Stephen Lang, and it seems like Ahnuld could easily
play a similar character.
This is great news for the Austrian Oak, since his post-governorship roles haven't exactly caught on fire — though we stand by giving The Last Stand a four star review. But it does make you wonder about what Cameron sees in Schwarzenegger. No, I'm not taking a potshot at his acting ability. Rather why Cameron is the only director who's ever cast him as a villain. First, he played the unstoppably icy title character in The Terminator. Then perhaps more disturbingly — and presciently — he cast him as a CIA agent who's basically a pathological liar, especially to his family, in True Lies. That movie was an uncanny prelude to Schwarzenegger's later tabloid antics that sundered his family.
The question is, does Cameron on some level actually hate Schwarzenegger? He's found a compelling actor to inhabit his characters, yes, but Cameron seems to suggest that there's an underlying current of the sinister in Arnold. They seem like good friends, but then again Werner Herzog called Klaus Kinski his "best friend" (and "best fiend") while plotting to kill him on the sets of Aguirre: Wrath of God and Fitzcarraldo. It's possible that Cameron likes his work...without really liking him on some level. At least we're almost guaranteed to hear Arnold say "Abadah" at some point.
Monday night, Madonna proved herself to be a hip and incredibly funny Reddit guest. Though she told Reddit that they could ask her almost anything
(AMAA), she proved to be fairly honest and forthcoming, though she
noticeably did not answer a popular question about her opinions on Lady
Gaga. When an eager Redditor asked her for a date, she replied "send
photo," and when another told her that his beauty was on the inside, she
replied "i still need to see it...show me your internal beauty then."
Here are a few other illuminating moments from her AMA.
On her best birthday present ever:
"i got a bong in the shape of a penis"
Her dream travel destinations:
"Egypt and an island off the coast of east Africa called Lamu"
Her last dream: "Brad Pitt and I were living together and there was a small blonde child in the bed. Sorry Angelina, it was only a dream."
The last thing she's laughed about:
"the fact that i had a dream about brad pitt"
On why her 2003 album American Life wasn't well received:
"because i dealt with alot of controversial issues in it. i criticized american politics, the entertainment business in hollywood..i was in an angry mood when i was making it. maybe that came across. but i was in an angry mood when i made my last album too"
On which music video was the most fun to make: "justify my love in paris"
On current causes she's invested in: "Censoring of artists, around the world. Censorship - for instance Pussy Riot."
On future collaborations:
"I would love to work with Daft Punk...just waiting for them to return my call"
On how big of a Reddit fan she is: "HUGE"
On her favorite method of procrastination:
"plucking my eyebrows"
On her relationship with her fans:
"we exist because of one another so its circuitry its totally reciprocated."
Her favorite desserts:
"A lemon tart or the rose lycee macaroon cake from La Duree"
On what she would say to her 20-year-old self:
"don't take any of this personally"
The gay guy she'd like to turn straight: "frank ocean"
On Freud:
"actually im not a big fan of Sigmund Freud...i dont think everything can be analyzed i think he was too celebral and a misogynist. im a fan of carl jung."
On making out with her new grills:"yup it works"
Shark Tank will begin yet another season on Friday,
September 20 at 9 PM ET on ABC. And I, for one, can't be more excited.
More entrepreneurs will be climbing into the tank to either get their
dream funding or get torn into chum by the hungry sharks. There's pretty
much no in-between there, which is what makes it great.
The show is adhering to its main core, but it's also making a big change. This time, there will be two female Sharks on the show at the same time. Before that, Lori Greiner and Barbara Corcoran tag-teamed as the lone female out of five sharks. This time, both of them will be there sometimes and Daymond John will be getting a breather. What I like about this is that it will likely calm things down in what can often be testosterone-driven negotiations. How many times do you remember Mark Cuban going, "OK, you have 24 seconds. Yes or no? Yes or no? OK, I'm out. See ya!"? I can see Greiner and Corcoran both slamming on the brakes there to bring things back to a more sedate level.
One of the main draws of the show is that it is very re-watchable. I've seen the same episodes several times and taken away something new each time from how an entrepreneur either did a great job with the negotiations or frittered away their chance by even walking through those doors to meet the Sharks.
What I also love about the show is that the sharks have their own distinct personalities and aren't afraid to insult each other as well as those poor sharks that come in. Kevin O'Leary calls himself "Mr. Wonderful" and is more often a jerk than not. John can be brusque when he realizes the pitch is not for him, but for all his machismo, Cuban tends to be like Robert Herjavec and is very helpful in his explanations of why he is or is not in - unless the prospective entrepreneur pisses him off.
The only thing I don't like in the show is that advertising is starting to creep in at some points. Suddenly one of the Sharks will proclaim that they have to take a call on a prominently named phone. Things like that jar a bit. I know they have to do this to help combat DVRing, but it takes me out of the show.
Other than that, I can't wait until Friday. Come on in...the water's fine.
I don't think there has ever been a film title as plainly descriptive as Machete Kills.
There's not nuance or irony or symbolism hidden between the letters.
It's simple: Machete kills. That's all he does, and that's pretty much
the only thing that the latest red band trailer for Machete Kills shows. Machete killing things. And it's glorious.
In this sequel to Robert Rodriguez's mexsploitation thriller, Danny Trejo reprises his role as Machete, an ex-Federale with an unparalleled skill for filling graves. President Charlie Sheen (Carlos Estevez) tasks Machete with killing Mel Gibson, so off Machete goes to heavily increase the murder rate in several U.S states and Mexico. The trailer is a visceral slideshow of the many ways to kill a man. The fact that there isn't just one scene where a man is flung into the spinning blades of a helicopter but two should tell you all you need to know about what kind of movie this is.
We also get a glimpse of the other players in Machete Kills including, Michelle Rodriguez, Lady Gaga, Cuba Gooding Jr., and the lovely Sofia Vergara who is determined to prove that there's still comedic value in screaming at everything really loudly.
We can't be exactly sure how the invetible Machete/Mel Gibson showdown will end, but if we had to guess, Machete Kills will end with both parties walking away amicably, having solved their differences peacefully.
While Zac Efron's professional journey from High School Musical to John F. Kennedy assassination flick has been marred by Nicholas Sparks and one less than sanitary encounter with Nicole Kidman, we all thought it was safe to say that he was one Disney kid who
emerged into adulthood unscathed. Turns out, however, that while Efron
didn't land behind bars or twerk on the national stage like some of his
peers, he faced his own share of demons.
E! News revealed Tuesday that Efron completed a stint in rehab five months ago. And yet somehow, we're only hearing about it now. According to E!'s source, Efron is "healthy, happy and not drinking. He's taking time to focus on working."
Really, it's a testament to Efron that he was able to be proactive about facing his issues and tackle them in a mature, private way. Nice try, Disney monster, you've been thwarted again.
In Martha Wells’ new novel Star Wars Empire and Rebellion: Razor's Edge (out Sept. 24) Princess Leia gets the spotlight. Considering that Del
Rey’s ongoing line of Expanded Universe books have charted more than 40
years of Her Worship’s life, what more is there to learn? Easy. Wells is
diving deep into the aftermath of the most traumatic part of Leia’s
life: the destruction of her home planet, Alderaan. Razor’s Edge is about how, two years after the events of A New Hope,
Leia encounters survivors of Alderaan who’ve responded to their loss in
a very different, and much more violent, way than she has.
“I think the destruction of Alderaan is such a huge, dark, apocalyptic moment in the middle of an exciting adventure story, and that makes it difficult to address,” Wells says of why previous Star Wars storytelling has often glossed over the planet’s destruction. “It's such a terrible moment for Leia, it's going to affect everything she feels and says and does for the rest of her life. She'll never be free of it, never be past it, she just has to be live with it. And I think to a large extent it would be like that for all the survivors. It was just very interesting to me to think about how different individuals would deal with it, and what their reactions would be, and how it would change them.”
The period of the Original Trilogy has already been largely explored — not just in the movies, but in Marvel’s line of Star Wars comics from the late ‘70s and early ‘80s and, of course, Alan Dean Foster’s classic Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, considered the first Expanded Universe novel. “I actually read the old Marvel comics and Splinter of the Mind's Eye when they came out, but I didn't go back and read them again,” Wells says. “I was a huge Star Wars fan, especially right after the movies came out, and wrote and read a lot of fan fiction set during that period. I did watch A New Hope again, but I'd spent so much time and imagination in that period when I was in high school and college that immersing myself back in it was pretty easy.”
There have been a lot of different interpretations of Leia over the years, many of which emphasize her skills as a diplomat. In Razor’s Edge, Wells wanted to capture the fierce Leia who could blast her way out of the Death Star’s detention block. “I think the key is not just seeing Leia as a stereotypical strong woman character, but as someone who is young but is a leader, who has taken on huge responsibilities, but also as someone who has an epic temper and can be sarcastic, and can make mistakes,” Wells says. “She's not a perfect princess, she's a person with flaws and vulnerabilities who manages to do what she needs to do anyway, and I think those things were conveyed in Carrie Fisher's performance.”
Read on for an exclusive excerpt from the novel.

Metara invited them to sit down. Leia took a seat on one of the couches, and Han flopped down beside her, seemingly unconcerned. Terae’s gaze flicked over them suspiciously, and Leia tried to see her group through the other woman’s eyes: Han dangerous, Sian cool and calm, and Kifar stoic. Leia had no idea what she looked like. She suspected she just looked angry.
She watched Metara silently. She wasn’t interested in exchanging pleasantries, especially as there was no telling how much this delay might already be hurting the injured aboard the merchant ship. She waited to hear what Metara wanted to say.
Metara broke the silence abruptly. “We didn’t watch Alderaan be destroyed and then suddenly decide to become pirates. That isn’t what happened.”
Leia inclined her head slightly. “What did happen?”
Metara took a deep breath. “We were in the outer perimeter of the system. We intercepted some Imperial transmissions and realized that an attack was taking place. We set a course for Alderaan but didn’t arrive in time. We never actually saw the Death Star.” Her expression tightened at the name, as if it still cost her something to say it aloud. Leia knew how that felt. “Our sensors and communications were taken out by the blast wave, and we had to stop and make repairs. We had no idea what had happened, at first. Then we were finally able to make our way back and picked up the edge of the debris field. It was . . . a terrible moment.”
Watching Metara intently, Leia realized that the captain had thought a lot about how she would explain what had happened, though it was doubtful that she had ever cast Leia in the role of the person she would be explaining it to. Perhaps she had rehearsed the speech in her thoughts, imagining herself justifying her actions to her commanding officer, or one of her parents, or a mentor. That didn’t bode well. It meant that Metara had been shoring up her defenses for a long time.
When Leia didn’t respond, Kelvan said, “Everyone on the crew had lost . . . everyone, everything. Our families came from Chianar, Aldera . . .” At the mention of the Alderaanian capital, he shifted in embarrassment and looked away, as if suddenly remembering who Leia was. That she had lost everyone, too.
Her voice a challenge, Terae said, “Where were you, Your Highness? When it happened.”
“I was aboard the Death Star,” Leia said, keeping her tone cool, hoping she was betraying nothing. She had rehearsed this, too, and performed it so often she could do it as evenly as if she were speaking of some minor diplomatic incident.
Terae stared, and Metara’s brow knit. Aghast, Kelvan said, “I thought that was a rumor.”
“There are many rumors about what happened, but that one is true. I . . . escaped,” she said, not looking at Han, “not long after. I was on Yavin Four when the Death Star was destroyed.”
The fast & the furious: Tokyo Drif, once the albatross around the neck of the already reviled Fast series, has become a point of interest to fans after the success of Fast 5 and Fast & Furious 6. Timelines crossed awkwardly when the death of Han, one
of the more loveable supporting characters, was completely ignored by
the fourth, fifth, and sixth entries, but the filmmakers insisted they
weren't disregarding Tokyo Drift, and turns out they were actually serious.
The post-film coda to Fast 6 revealed that even though we saw Han's death in 2006, it didn't actually happen until 2013. And how do you wring plot out of death in a car accident? Well, turns out, it was no accident. Jason Statham, striding confidently into the next best thing he could do besides another Crank sequel, was revealed as Han's murderer, potentially the brother of Fast 6's villain, and presumably one of up to 50 Big Bads that will chase, plague, and eventually become a part of our fast/furious crew of criminals. Even better, Han's protégé, played by Lucas Black as the world's oldest non-Glee teenager, is also back to star in Fast & Furious 7 (no word on whether or not he'll still be playing a 17-year-old). But moving on to the important stuff — how are they going to get Black back into the fold, and what the hell will he be doing there? Given the insanity of the average Fast movie, it could be literally anything, so let's think about how our favorite established characters would do it:
The Dom MethodAvenge Han's death through wicked driving and fistfighting — that's what you do. For family. Also, talk about family as frequently as possible.
The O'Conner MethodWork with the cops to bust Statham, putting our heroes in jeopardy until the last five minutes, when Black can throw away his law abiding citizenry to join them.
The Letty MethodHave Black fake his own death only to pop up on Statham's crew.
The Roman/Tej MethodWho cares? Just be a little funny and at least marginally useful and no one will ask any questions.
The Hobbs MethodBlackmail the crew into helping him pursue Statham. Wait, why do they need to be blackmailed? Okay, so that doesn't hold water, but Hobbs does know a thing or two about being a charismatic new character in this franchise.
The Mia MethodGet pregnant? Doubt that's what they'll go with, but with this series, you never know.
As Santana Lopez on Glee, Naya Rivera has a habit of keeping it real by being brutally honest, and it seems
as if she's carried that philsophy over to her solo album. Rivera
released her first single, "Sorry," along with a lyric video on Tuesday
and recruited her boyfriend, rapper Big Sean, to feature on the track. But what, exactly, is Rivera apologizing for? Well, for not being sorry that she stole someone's boyfriend.
The song is written as a brush-off to her boy's ex-girlfriend, who seems understandably upset that Rivera has unapologetically stolen him away from her. After establishing that she's just so hot that this guy couldn't resist, Rivera gets downright mean in the second verse, where she tells the ex-girlfriend that she's "looking like a hot mess, honey/I think it's time for you to cut it out/trying to keep you from looking funny/I guess until you find somebody/you're a hashtagging pity party." Ouch. And that's before Big Sean rubs some salt in the wound by rapping about how much he loves his new girl. Remind us to never get on Rivera's bad side.
Thanks in part to a pop/R&B hybrid production that suits Rivera's voice perfectly, the song itself is incredibly catchy — which would be great if it weren't so problematic. Because bragging about how you're not sorry that you've stolen someone's boyfriend and layering that non-apology with a liberal amount of insults seems downright catty and — dare we say it — rather anti-feminist. Granted, everyone's felt a little mean and petty once or twice in their lives, and Rivera never claimed to be a bastion of feminism, but at the end of the day, do we really need something else that perpetuates the stereotype of women as constantly fighting with one another?
If you're in a particularly catty mood yourself, you can check out the NSFW lyric video below.
America's Got Talent
One of the most entertaining competition shows of the summer enters it closing week as (you!) America whittles down the final six to see who will win the million-dollar prize. My money is on the operatic tenor group, Forte. Now those cats can sing!
Survivor Blood Vs. WaterCBS's long-running reality competition series returns for it's 27th season and is still as incredibly addictive as ever. This time around former castaways and their families will compete against one another on an island in the Philippines. Check it out and you're guaranteed to become an instant believer.
The Mindy ProjectOkay, I know what you're thinking: Mindy Kaling's coming of age comedy struggled to find its voice during season one. So why should I watch? Sure that's true, but remember how horribly bland the first season of The Office was? How about Seinfeld? When it comes to great sitcoms, as The Mindy Project has the potential to become, the first season is usually the least memorable. Unless, of course, you're The Simpsons.
New GirlHollywood never knew what to do with Zooey Deschanel, which is why she spent the last decade playing the same plaid skirt wearing, cutesy girl next door in about a dozen different mediocre comedies. Then Fox's New Girl came along and well, it seems like Zooey can finally be Zooey for once. Now if they would just stop calling her adorkable! The third season of New Girl premieres on September 17.
Shark TankWho knew that the best reality show on TV could be about four greedy millionaires and their attempts to become even richer by having hungry entrepreneurs pitch their latest business ventures to them? Even stranger is the fact that the most entertaining part of the show is when their ideas are ripped apart in a matter of minutes. Hey, they don't call 'em sharks for nothing! The new season of Shark Tank debuts on Friday, September 20.
This calls for an above ground pool party: Mark Wahlberg has, at age 42, graduated from high school. The Transformers 4 star had dropped out during his freshman year, pursuing some moreover regrettable paths. But the actor tells People that he scored his diploma in June after enrolling in classes last summer, marking the achievement as "a huge sense of relief."
You can say that again, Marky Mark. Considering just how much more successful the average high school graduate is than his dropout counterpart, you're about to see one hell of an upswing...
According to PBS.org, the average high school grad earns approximately one third more than your standard dropout. That means that Wahlberg, who presently stands with a measly net worth of $200 million should be cranking that up to the far more comfortable $300 million.
And then we have the unemployment rates, which equate to about 12% for high school dropouts and 8% (three quarters of that sum) overall. If we look at Wahlberg's output in 2013, we'll see that the layabout only made three movies all year. Thanks to his new diploma, 2014 should have at least four Wahlberg titles.
Finally, we circle back to Wahlberg's stint in jail, the pockmark on his personal history. PBS informs us that dropouts are 63% more likely to land time in lockup. Back in the 1980s, Wahlberg served 45 days of a two-year sentence. But with diploma in hand, Wahlberg is destined to only serve about 28 days of jail this time around. Mazel tov, champ.
Congratulations, dear Marky Mark. Be sure to read a copy of Oh, the Places You'll Go! wistfully, as is tradition.
Katy Perry might be getting flak for her single "Roar" sounding a wee-bit too much
like Sara Bareilles' "Brave," but Perry isn't the type to go hide in
the shadows until the storm has cleared. She's come right back out with a
new single from her upcoming album Prism that is, honestly, a breath of fresh air.
After the success from a long list of hit pop songs and garnering endless praise from her fans, it looks like Perry's finally built up enough confidence to take a risk with her new song, "Dark Horse." Using a rap track from Juicy J and beats from producers Dr. Luke and Max Martin, Perry adds her voice to produce a song that's much darker and edgier than anything she's ever done.
"It's kind of a juxtaposition. It's got me, a pop artist, with a little bit of an urban kind of hip-hop-flavored background soundtrack to it, and the lyrics are kind of witchy and dark, as if I was a witch warning this man not to fall in love with me, and if you do, know I'm going to be your last," Perry told MTV.
Whether her fans take to her new style or not, with lyrics like "So you wanna play with magic/ Boy, you should know watcha falling for" and "This love will make you levitate," this song is probably going to get its fair share of fame when it's inevitably featured in every supernatural show from Vampire Diaries to Teen Wolf.
Guys, Rob Lowe is going to be in another sex tape. Wait... hold on... according to Deadline, it looks like he's actually going to star in a movie called Sex Tape. Okay, there we go. (Although I know you all were secretly hoping another one of his sex tapes had been discovered.)
Lowe, known for his current role as health-nut Chris Traeger in Parks and Recreation and for his days trolling around with the Brat Pack, is once again poking fun at his infamous sex tape from the '80s in the upcoming comedy. The movie, co-written and soon-to-be directed by Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher), centers on a husband and wife, played by fellow Bad Teacher alumni Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz, who attempt to spice up their marriage by making their very own sex tape. Too bad they have to go on a manhunt to try and find the dirty tape after it somehow ends up in the hands of a highstrung CEO played by Lowe. The movie's supporting cast will include the likes of Jack Black and Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine).
Production has yet to start, but fans of Lowe can see him in his last season of Parks and Recreation on Sept. 26 and as John F. Kennedy in the National Geographic Channel's upcoming docudrama Killing Kennedy on Nov. 10.
In the first season of Mindy Kaling's highly anticipated series The Mindy Project,
audiences didn't quite know what to make of her titular alter ego. The
show struggled to give Mindy Lahiri the flaws that would keep the
awkward situations and graceless pratfalls coming, while also endearing
her to us. The show started to hit its stride towards the end of season
one, and Mindy became less of a manic-pixie-dreamgirl version of Kelly
Kapoor and more like a fully fleshed-out character in her own right.
Well done, show.
What's never been in question, however, is the sheer, unadulterated dreaminess of the character who we all know is meant to be Mindy's endgame love interest: Danny Castellano. Doctor Danny Castellano, if you please.
Chris Messina is one of those actors who seems suddeny ubiquitous, though he's been steadily working for quite a while. Last year was his TV breakout; he made his mark not only in this tentpole Fox comedy, but also in premium cable drama, playing Reese Lansing on The Newsroom. The double duty gives us the opportunity to see the variety in the way Messina plays frustration. Reese is a churlish rich kid. But Danny's grumpiness is one of his most appealing traits. The more annoyed Danny gets with the shenanigans that pervade his office, the harder we swoon.
Dr. Castellano — he claims — just wants everyone to get to work and leave him alone. But then he's curiously game to get on board with his coworkers' sitcom schemes, even if he complains the whole time. He would rather stick pins in his eyes than talk about his feelings, and he's still not sure if The Colbert Report is a satire or not. But Danny's a good friend to Mindy, who has realized that his boldfaced honesty is well-intentioned and valuable. They make excellent partners in crime, and he's perfecting that look — the Mr. Darcy look that has us screaming at Mindy to get her to notice. He also sweats a lot, but he's birthing babies here, people. It's hard work.
When we last left Danny, he was making another go of it with his ex-wife Christina (Chloe Sevigny) after Mindy decided to go with her minister boyfriend Casey to Haiti. We'll catch up with them on The Mindy Project second season premiere, which is available right now on Hulu and iTunes and airs on Fox Tuesday, September 17 at 9:30 PM ET.
The film adaptation of the blistering, critically-acclaimed play: August: Osage County is set to open in U.S. theaters on Dec. 25, but the ending of the movie is still up in the air.
The LA Times reported that the ending seen by Toronto International Film Festival audiences earlier this month was there, in part, because earlier test audiences had been angered by the film's initial, less hopeful final scene. Though all parties have been showing their polite and collaborative faces to the press, rumor has it that the ending issue has divided into two, high-powered camps. In this corner, fighting for the original denouement: director John Wells and playwright/screenwriter Tracy Letts. In this corner, pressing for the cushier, more audience-friendly finale: Harvey Weinstein and Miramax.
*Warning: potential spoilers for the film and play below the trailer.
The play, a black comedy/drama about the flawed and combative Weston family, ends with the family's matriarch (Meryl Streep in this year's film version) sitting on a staircase calling for her
young housekeeper, having pushed her family away with her monstrous
behavior. TIFF audiences saw a different finale, where the staircase
tableau is followed by a shot of Julia Robert's character Barbara driving away from her childhood home. In the latter
version, the shift in attention allows the audience to leave feeling
hopeful for Barbara that she'll escape the influence her toxic mother
has held over her life. But fans of the play would argue that the
original ending is more powerful and true to the dark mood of the story.
The August: Osage County situation calls into question (and not for the first time) the power that test audiences and focus groups wield. To insist that a piece of work about a family as damaged and violent as the Westons have a "happy" ending feeds the myth that American audiences can't handle difficult material. And focus groups are not traditional audiences, in that they've been brought to a theater for a specific purpose and asked to commit to an opinion about a movie before they've had time to sleep on it, talk about it over coffee, or digest it in any way. Audiences certainly came in droves to see the stage version of the story, which, incidentally won both the Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award, among heaps of other accolades. Does a movie have to end with a kiss and smile and a song to make us glad that we've seen it? Can't we just feel good about August: Osage County because it's a brutally funny, often surprising film with powerhouse performances?
Focus Features There are plenty of people who will always associate Kate Winslet with the role of Rose DeWitt Bukater in Titanic.
But film buffs and critics know that the English actress is a true
indie-lover at heart, having spent much of her career bringing some of
the quirkiest, darkest stories to life. Kate has plenty going on right
now—newly married to Ned Rocknroll (yes, that is his last name), and pregnant with her third child, we’ll be seeing plenty of her as she promotes two new films —Labor Day, and the highly anticipated adaptation of the YA novels Divergent. Before she gives us any more performances to fawn over — and she will — let’s look back at five of her best indie movie roles.
Sarah Pierce, Little Children
If you don’t know the power of a little red swimsuit, then you’ve missed a hugely important life lesson, brought to us by Sarah Pierce. Winslet takes on the epic cliché — a sexually and intellectually bored, suburban housewife — but this character comes to life in unimaginable, unforgettable ways through Winslet’s performance.
Clementine Kruczynski, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Everyone’s favorite Charlie Kaufman script would not have played as brilliantly with another actress in the lead. The ultimate quirk, Clementine made us all want to dye our hair orange and fall crazy in love on a beach in Montauk.
Nancy Cowan, Carnage
Teaming up with Roman Polanski, Jodie Foster, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly, Winslet as Nancy Cowan was the drunk, well-to-do Brooklyn mother of our dreams. You simply have not lived until you’ve seen her projectile vomit onto a collection of fine art books.
April Wheeler, Revolutionary Road
In one of her darkest, most compelling performances (and one that paired her up with Leonardo DiCaprio for the first time since Titanic) Winslet stunned audiences with another portrayal of a woman struggling against the clichés of American life.
Hanna Schmitz, The Reader
Nominated for an Oscar more times than anyone else at age 33, it was this controversial performance of an illiterate Nazi officer (who was also a teenage boy’s lover) that earned Winslet her first Academy Award.
You're So Vain, You Probably Think This Song Is About You
Alanis Morissette – "You Oughta Know"
A tour-de-force of angst-ridden alt-rock, "You Oughta Know" transformed the Canadian from a Tiffany-esque teen pop mall queen to the world's biggest banshee.
Arnold Schwarzenegger May Play 'Avatar 2' Villain: Does James Cameron Secretly Hate Him?

'Shark Tank' — Why I'm So Gosh-Darn Excited About The New Season
Danny Trejo Murders Everything in New 'Machete Kills' Red Band Trailer
Apparently, Zac Efron Went to Rehab 5 Months Ago and No One Noticed
'Star Wars Empire and Rebellion: Razor's Edge': Martha Wells On Writing Princess Leia & Exclusive Excerpt

'Fast & Furious' Series to Put Lucas Black Behind the Wheel for 3 More Movies
Naya Rivera Gets Unapologetically Mean on First Single 'Sorry'
DVR Me: Survivors, Sharks, and Funny Girls Named Mindy
Mark Wahlberg Graduates High School! How Much More Successful Will He Be Now?
Katy Perry is Bewitching in Her New Single 'Dark Horse'
Rob Lowe Cast in 'Sex Tape,' and No, It's Not What You're Thinking

What's never been in question, however, is the sheer, unadulterated dreaminess of the character who we all know is meant to be Mindy's endgame love interest: Danny Castellano. Doctor Danny Castellano, if you please.

Test Audiences Doing Their Best to Ruin 'August: Osage County'
Kate Winslet — Unforgettable Indie Roles from One of the Greats
BOLLYWOOD UPDATES
I'd like to host a quiz show like KBC: Ranbir Kapoor
Mumbai: Actor Ranbir Kapoor, who is doing well for himslef in
Bollywood, says he would like to explore television as well and that he
won`t mind hosting a show like ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC).
"It`s a good thing that TV is doing really well. I like Salman Khan`s `Bigg Boss`, Amitji`s (Amitabh Bachchan) `Kaun Banega Crorepati` (KBC). If given a chance, I would like to do a quiz show like KBC. I would like to explore TV as well," said Ranbir.
The actor, who has made it big in tinsel town with hits like ‘Wake Up Sid’, ‘Barfi!’ and ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, says he still has a long way to go.
"It`s just the beginning and I still have a long way to go. I don`t get carried away by success," said the 30-year-old.
Ranbir is currently busy promoting ‘Besharam’.
Mumbai: Politician Baba Siddiqui’s Iftaar party held a few weeks back brought arch rivals Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan together under the same roof after ages.
The Bollywood titans, who had earlier made headlines for snubbing each other time and again, had made news for their unexpected “hug”, thereby, leading to speculations about their alliance.
The ‘Dabangg’ star had taken the initiative to greet his ‘Karan Arjun’ co-star at Siddiqui’s party and has since then been generous towards him.
Recently, Salman expressed that he would be glad to play host to Shah Rukh Khan on his show ‘Bigg Boss’, which surprised one and all. And reportedly, Shah Rukh, who was in Dubai promoting his next film ‘Happy New Year’ that time, was more than happy to accept Salman’s invite.
It would be interesting to see if Shah Rukh makes his presence felt in the next season of ‘Bigg Boss’ to promote the aforementioned film. The shooting of the Farah Khan film has just begun and will be ready for release next year.
We can’t wait to see Salman (who has now become a synonym to ‘Bigg Boss’) play a proud host to Shah Rukh Khan!

How long will Aamir Khan kiss Anushka Sharma?
Mr Perfectionist is likely to set a new record for the longest kiss ever in the Indian cinema
Kissing is ubiquitous in our movies these days. Gone is the time when lip locks would draw audiences to the theatre. Recently Sushant Singh Rajput delivered a record 27 kisses in Maneesh Sharma’s `Shuddh Desi Romance`. And now B-town’s favorite kisser (no we are not talking about the serial kisser Emraan Hashmi) Aamir Khan is all set to set a new record for locking his lips for the longest time with Anushka Sharma!
Yes, after kissing almost every actor (read: leading lady) he has been paired with in almost every movie he did, Mr Perfectionist is now going to deliver the longest kiss of all time of Indian cinema. A bitchy birdie has chirped to us furiously that the 48-year-old actor will kiss Anushka-who is almost half of his age for Rajkumar Hirani’s next titled `P.K.`
Well, we thinks Aamir should earn himself a good mouthwash endorsement after achieving this feat? You tell us doesn’t the shorty hottie deserve that?

Enjoy different genres of romance this weekend
New Delhi: The Box Office will witness variations of romance
this weekend when Rajkumar Santoshi`s ‘Phata Poster Nikla Hero’ and
Ritesh Batra`s debut film ‘The Lunchbox’ hit the screens Friday.
Made at Rs.40 crore, ‘Phata Poster Nikla Hero’ stars Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D`Cruz. Santoshi feels the film will bring the much-awaited success for Shahid, whose past releases failed to create a buzz at the box office.
"His previous films may not have worked, but he is a wonderful actor. He is very hard working. He has done a good job in the film. I think this will be Shahid`s huge break. He will be successful with the film," Santoshi said.
The film has been produced by Ramesh Taurani and will mark ‘Barfi’ heroine Ileana`s entry into Bollywood`s commercial masala zone.
Critically acclaimed, ‘The Lunchbox’ seems to be another good option for the viewers.
Featuring Irrfan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Nimrat Kaur, the film is being promoted and released by Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar.
It has already received huge success at international film festivals and even bagged the Critics Week Viewers Choice Award also known as Grand Rail d`Or at the 66th Cannes Film Festival.
The budget of the film has not been revealed. However, it has not been made on a high budget.
"I cannot reveal the budget of the film. All I can say is that it is a low-medium budget film. It is a small film," Vivek Rangachari of DAR Motion Pictures, one of the co-producers of the movie said.

Sushant Singh Rajput steps into the shoes of Hrithik Roshan
Having worked with him in ‘Jodhaa Akbar’, Hrithik Roshan was

Gowariker, who is synonymous with period films like ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ and ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’, is making his next based on Mohenjodaro. Keen to work with Salman, says Deepika Padukone
Mumbai: Actress Deepika Padukone says she is keen to work with
superstar Salman Khan but is waiting for something special to bring them
together on screen.
Deepika had an acting debut offer from Salman, which happened way before she was chosen by Farah Khan for `Om Shanti Om`. However, she declined it then as she felt she was not ready to face the camera.
"He offered me my first film when I was too young and I was not ready to be in front of the camera. I will always be grateful to him. Just the fact that he offered me a film was a great thing. It is taking a long time for us to come together on screen, so I think there is something special waiting for us," Deepika said last night.
The actress, who will be seen alongside south superstar Rajnikanth for the first time in `Kochadaiyaan`, says she admires his child like enthusiasm.
"I worked for three days with him. I took back from him is his simplicity, humility and child like attitude on sets. Despite achieving so much success he is so excited, enthusiastic and energetic even today, this is something that is inspiring to see," she said.
A lot of appreciation is coming Deepika`s way with the success of films like `Chennai Express`, `Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani`, `Race 2` but the actress feels awkward when people compliment her.
"I feel lucky enough to play special characters with good actors and directors...I feel awkward when people compliment me. I don`t take compliments well, I don`t reciprocate well," the actress said.
Deepika is happy to be a part of Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s romantic drama `Ram Leela` opposite Ranveer Singh.
"There are various ways of telling a love story, like he (Sanjay) did with `Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam`, `Devdas`, and now he has come with a new love story `Ram Leela`, with a new background, new palette. Gujarat is not explored much in films, it is a new, different side of Gujarat," she said.
"The exciting part is that the film is new looking, fresh and different, it is a risk that we both (Ranveer and I) have taken... It is a new take on love story. We are nervous but excited," she said.
Deepika said it was not easy as it was emotionally, mentally and physically demanding film.

Ram Gopal Varma is so last season in my life: Karan Johar
New Delhi: Karan Johar and Ram Gopal Varma have a history of
engaging in Twitter wars but the `My Name Is Khan` director says he now
wants to pick on someone else as RGV is "so last season" in his life.
Johar, 41, said their exchange of words on Twitter is just for fun.
"It is fun. We are having fun actually. It is war of words for everyone`s entertainment. According to me, right now, I really want to find a new filmmaker to pick on because he is so last season in my life," Johar, who was in the city to promote `The Lunchbox`, said when asked about his Twitter exchange with RGV on Teachers Day.
Varma, 51, had initiated the fight by poking fun at Johar`s 2012 hit film `Student Of The Year` on Teachers` Day.
"If someone takes off from Karan Johar`s `Student of the year` and makes Teacher of the year it will become the Disaster of the year," RGV had tweeted.
Johar had promptly tweeted: "Disaster of the year is your territory Ramu... No one can ever replace the comfortable place you have made for yourself there."
It was not for the first time that the two filmmakers fought on Twitter. In 2010, RGV had made fun of Johar`s `My Name is Khan`.
Johar has collaborated with Disney-UTV for the Ritesh Batra directed `The Lunchbox`, which hits theatres on September 10 with 600 prints in India.
The director, who is famous for his larger-than-life take on romance, said he decided to attach himself to the film because he was envious of its simplicity.
"I envy that the film was not completely mine, envy that it had the most beautiful writing and a simple story told in a way that I could never write. So I decided to substitute envy with acknowledgement. If you can`t beat them, join them."
Johar admits that he is incapable of making simple films but says as a producer he wants to nurture such projects and learn from new directors.
"Every film is a new mistake. Looking back I find, `Kuch Kuch Hota Hai` a ridiculous story, when I see `Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham`, I think it is 35 minutes too long, `Kal Ho Naa Ho`, I wish I had changed the end..., `Student of the Year`, I wish it had more of emotional intensity," he said.
Johar is planning to direct next year in September. "I have the story and I am working on the screenplay."
