Nicole Kidman to replace Naomi Watts in 'Queen of the Desert'

Los Angeles: Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman is in talks to replace Naomi Watts in director Werner Herzog`s `Queen Of The Desert`, a film about the early 20th Century explorer Gertrude Bell.
The film has already seen a change in male leaders earlier this year with James Franco replacing Jude Law. The film also stars Robert Pattinson.
Bell is the iconic explorer, writer, archeologist and attache for the British Empire who is credited with helping to catalyze the formation of the Middle East at the dawn of the 20th century, reported Deadline.
Bell helped establish the Hashemite dynasties in what is today Jordan as well as in Iraq with T E Lawrence, whose life story has already been told in `Lawrence of Arbia`.
Nick Raslan is producing through his Palmyra Films banner along with Cassian Elwes and Michael Benaroya. Benaroya`s Benaroya Pictures banner will finance the film.

The `Genie in a bottle` hit maker confessed that the only place where she doesn`t need to be in control is in her bedroom, Metro.co.uk reported.

Aguilera added that she is not the girl who`s going to be too tired.

Simon Cowell's child will be British

London: Music mogul Simon Cowell`s partner Lauren Silverman will give birth to their child here because it fits their schedule. Since the delivery will be here, the baby will be completely British.Silverman is based in New York, but will stay in England during delivery because Cowell will be here busy shooting for `Britain`s Got Talent` (BGT), reports Sunday People newspaper.
"He is thrilled that the baby will be born in England. He and Lauren have taken the decision based on what is best for the baby and they`ve chosen the UK," a source said."Because Simon has to be in the UK for `BGT` at the time, it is the only option. He wants to be at Lauren`s side when she gives birth and wants to be with his son after he`s born," the source added.

I See Right Through You: Sheer Madness in Hollywood

When it comes to style, celebrities are supposed to be early adopters. Its one of the things we pay them for. But what does it mean to we civilians when award season serves up every curve?
Since Yves St Laurent first started promoting the nipple in Paris, every fashion editor has known there is no Runway to Reality version of sheer. Sure, it still stomps the catwalks and even creeps into fashion editorials from time to time. But editors take their readers way too seriously to belabor the point.
Hollywood hasn't caught on to that piece of the style puzzle just yet. And when your body is your business it must be tempting to show what you've got. But here's a little fashion tip straight from the runways: trend-setting women dress for other women, not for men.
And as a reminder to fashion stylists who are tempted by their thoroughbred Red Carpet clientele, those carpets roll out over the streets people walk on. They're not actually runways.

Ellie Goulding wants to be a'sex symbol'

Los Angeles: Singer Ellie Goulding has admitted she wants to be seen as a `sex symbol`.
The 26-year-old joked that she gets `offended` as she was never named in FHM magazine`s `sexiest women` polls.
"I`ve never made anything like FHM. I`m very offended by that. I`ve never made any of those lists. So what`s up with that? I`ve never been thought of in that way, like a sex symbol,” femalefirst.co.uk quoted Goulding as saying.

100 Years of Quietude: Sci-Fi That Broods

SOLARIS, George Clooney, 2002, TM & Copyright (c) 20th Century Fox Film Corp. All rights reserved

Sci-fi definitely has its Emo side: bleak, solemn, and contemplative. Some trace it back to Hal, the moody mainframe from 2001, but it goes back as far as Fritz Lang's pioneering dystopic vision in Metropolis.
While we hold our breath for the release of Gravity, Alfonso CuarĂ³n's hat tip to a morose future, here is a short list of seminal sci-fi buzzkills.
Solaris
Worshiper of esoterica Steven Soderbergh remade this somber Russian sci-fi classic. His version was even more pensive and sad, and 100 times more beautiful.
Melancholia
This profoundly grim tale proved Lars von Trier could loosen his grip on his dogma about film artifice without checking his misanthropy at the door. The result is excruciating, but oddly soulful.
Blade Runner
Lang's Metropolis resonates throughout Ridley Scott's masterwork about androids that are so alienated they think they're human. Like teenagers, only smarter.
The Road
Don't eat before you see this movie. And you won't want to eat after it. The Road might be the perfect diet.

The Transexy Stomp: Runways Aren't Just For Girls Anymore

I know: it's hard to keep your finger on the blurring lines of human sexual identity. And why should you? Labels don't matter anymore, and the LGBTQIA acronym keeps expanding. But that "T" has been there a mighty long time. So why is the interest in Trans style suddenly peaking again?
The fashion world has always had its share of cult trans models. Stephen Sprouse's trans-muse Teri Toye caused ripples in Lower Manhattan in the '80s, and the mind-blowingly beautiful Andrej Pejic has stomped both men's and women's runways in the here and now. But those are anomalies, right?
Don't tell American Apparel. They just rallied a "transexy" cattle call in their Chelsea Store over Instagram. Publicity? Sure. Pandering to the LGBT customer? They chose the Chelsea location, didn't they?
But maybe we are at a tipping point. Bradley Manning's gender reassignment is only raising eyebrows because he wants the government to pony up for it. And Lana Wachowski's transition barely raised eyebrows at all.
So maybe American Apparel has it right, maybe it's just time. I can buy that. America is nothing if not surprising, and everyone looks good in a tee shirt.

Lance Armstrong Flix Pile Up: Dude, We Forgive You Already

Talent is circling around competing Lance Armstrong projects, all of them predicated on America's need to forgive heroes who fall. We do, but not more than once. There are currently three films in development, which is at least two too many.
Bradley Cooper is reportedly attached as producer and actor to a version Jay Roach will direct. Ben Foster has signed on to a Stephen Frears telling of the tale. And heavyweight J.J. Abrams is said to be developing a project based on Juliet Macur's Cycle Of Lies: The Fall Of Lance Armstrong, which he is rumored to have approached Cooper about.
So Hollywood appears to be closing in on filmmaker Alex Gibney's documentary about Armstrong's fall from grace, The Armstrong Lie, which just debuted at The Venice Film Festival. How will a biopic version stack up? That pretty much depends on who gets there first.

Rajinikanth starrer 'Kochadaiiyaan' trailer launched

New Delhi: The first trailer of the highly anticipated Tamil period film `Kochadaiiyaan`, which marks the onscreen return of superstar Rajinikanth after a gap of three years, has been unveiled today.
Rajinikanth`s last release was `Enthiran` in 2010. The actor was supposed to begin work on `Rana` but he fell sick in May 2011 and it was shelved.
Later, it was decided that Rajinikanth will star in
`Kochadaiyaan` which marks the directorial debut of the 62-year-old actor`s daughter Soundarya R Ashwin.
The film narrates the story of 8th century Pandiya King, Kochadaiyaan Ranadhiran.
The trailer begins with the words- `There are heroes, there can be superheroes but there is only one...` followed by the grand entry of Rajinikanth in a warrior avatar.
`Kochadaiiyaan` is touted to be India`s first motion capture technology (MOCAP) film being made along the lines of Hollywood films like `Avatar`, `Polar Express` and `Tin Tin`.
Deepika Padukone, who is the leading lady of the film, is missing from the first trailer but Soundarya said the actress will feature prominently in the second teaser.
"The beautiful princess Vadhana Devi (Deepika`s character)... Next teaser just to reveal your stunning looks," Soundarya posted on twitter.
The music has been composed by Oscar winner AR Rahman and will be launched in October. Rajinikanth has also lent his voice in one of the songs.
`Kochadaiiyaan` will be dubbed and simultaneously released in Telugu (as `Vikrama Simha`), Malayalam, English and Hindi. The film will hit theatres on Rajinikanth`s birthday on December 12.

Film industry is an insecure place: Kangana Ranaut

Mumbai: Actress Kangana Ranaut, who has no film background, says the film industry is not a secure place to be in. She says there are times when she has movie offers, but there are days when she has no projects in hand. "I won`t say I don`t want to be where I am today, but the industry is an insecure place to be in. This industry is like one fine day you get up and you get a call for work and at times you don`t get work for six months. It`s not just about me. I think everybody has their own insecurities," Kangana said.
She said that it is nice to have her elder sister Rangoli around.
"I have been without my family in this city (Mumbai) for a long time so it`s nice to have your family around. My sister works with me. She handles my work, manages everything and I only act," said the 26-year-old.
"Its not about me being successful or unsuccessful ... no matter what happens, she is always there for me. It`s a great feeling. This industry is a place which can tend to be an insecure place so it`s good to have somebody around who doesn`t judge you," she added.
Kangana has made a place for herself in the Hindi film industry, but she has one regret.
"I have learnt everything here, but my only regret is that I wish I had better guidance in the beginning of my career. I wish somebody was there to guide me. The place where I come from, they don`t give much importance to art. I didn`t know how to behave or what expectations people have from me," she said.
Kangana, who impressed audiences with her acting skills in movies like `Gangster`, `Fashion` and `Tanu Weds Manu`, is also praised for her fashion sense. She says her inspiration comes from "old Hollywood".
"I don`t have any fashion guru as such, but I travel a lot and take inspiration from different places. Old Hollywood is my all-time inspiration," said the curly haired beauty who is looking forward to the last quarter of 2013.
"(The year) 2013 so far has been dull, but towards the end it`s exciting. I have some good films coming up so I am really looking forward to it," she said.
She will be soon seen in superhero movie `Krrish 3`.

Happy Birthday Akshay Kumar: Top 4 things we know him for!

New Delhi: There have been stars and there have been good looking stars. Akshay Kumar (is one name that) figures in the latter (category) and is a force to be reckoned with.
From a restaurant cook in Bangkok to Rs 2,000 crore hero in the Hindi film industry; it has been quite a journey for Akki.
As he turns a year older today, here’s taking a quick look at the
Good looks, good looks and good looks: Yes, first thing you would recall about Akshay of the 90s is his hairy chest, athletic frame and a handsome visage that would make young girls skip a heartbeat.
That Casanova image: Although he might have dropped the Casanova tag and have passed on to the younger lot populating the B-Town these days, we can’t help but remember his much-known flings with Raveena Tandon and Shilpa Shetty.
The Khiladi tag: Akshay began his stunt stint with ‘Khiladi’ and has come of age with ‘Khiladi 786’. No doubt, he is the ‘BOSS’ of action cinema.
A much skilled man: From tossing noodles like a pro to breaking bricks like an ace, he is one of the few actors who learnt the art of cooking and self-defence very early in life.

My 'Krrish 3' role is chance of a lifetime: Vivek Oberoi

New Delhi: Vivek Oberoi`s super villain look in sci-fi franchise `Krrish 3` has been kept under wraps but the actor, who has not tasted success at the box office for sometime, is confident that the role will be a game changer for him.
"It`s once in a life time character. He is a super villain and an aristocratic prince of darkness. He hates human race because he is not accepted in the society. His vengeance is so strong that he has created his own universe to fight against them. It`s one of the scariest baddies onscreen," Vivek told reporters in an interview.
The 37-year-old actor said he did not face any problem in playing a dark role because he feels he got maximum appreciation from audience by portraying such edgy roles in films like `Company` and `Shootout at Lokhandwala`.
"I enjoy doing such characters. I am constantly looking for roles which are new for me and challenging to do. With `Krish 3` I jumped at it. I was very impressed with the script and character," said Vivek, who was here to support a cause for underprivileged girls in Vrindavan.
Directed by Rakesh Roshan, the film will see Hrithik and Priyanka reprising their roles while Kangana Ranaut is the new addition. It is slated to hit theatres this Diwali.
Vivek designed the look and mannerism of his character in the film and he opted not to watch any sci-fi film to bring originality to the role.
"I wanted to stay away from taking any inspiration from other films because I felt there will be no originality. It is a tricky character. Rakesh uncle gave me enough space to experiment with my role. It`s my interpretation right from its costume to mannerism," he said.
The third franchise of the superhero movie will begin with
Vivek and the actor recalls his nervousness before the shoot.
"I was super nervous when I heard that I will give the first shot of the film. I didn`t sleep the night before and went to the set without my breakfast. I kept thinking how it would be. When I gave the first shot, my whole unit including Hrithik and Rakesh uncle hugged me after a brief silence," he said.
The `Saathiya` star said he has not signed any film before the release of `Krrish 3` as he wants to see how audience react to his role.
"I am intentionally not doing any film before `Krrish 3` releases. I am not signing anything at this point. I hope my career will change after this film. I will get right roles with good directors. I have been in the industry for a decade and did 35 films. But now I want to wait and do right roles," he added.

I too used to think about my big posters: Shahid Kapoor

Mumbai: Actor Shahid Kapoor, who will be seen essaying the character of an aspiring actor in upcoming action-comedy `Phata Poster Nikhla Hero`, says like his character, he too, used to dream and think of becoming an actor and having huge posters and hoardings.
In the film, Shahid`s character Vishwas Rao always aspires and dreams of becoming an actor.
"Just like my character Vishwas Rao says in the film, `ek din mere bhi bade bade poster lagengey`, I also used to have such dreams before becoming an actor and me too used to think `me too will have such huge huge posters` (mere bhi ek din itne bade bade poster lagengey)," Shahid said here in an interview.
Before foraying into acting in 2003, the 32-year-old worked in quite a few music videos and commercials. Later he joined Shiamak Davar Institute for the Performing Arts and was seen as a dancer in 1999 released film `Taal`.
"I still remember when I used to stand beneath the hoardings and think `whether I will have such huge posters or not` (mere itne bade posters hongey ya nahin?). So, definitely I too have been through those moments. I too have gone for the auditions," he added.
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, `Phata Poster Nikhla Hero` features Ileana D`Cruz and hit the screens Sep 20.

Shoojit, Ayushmann and John to reunite for romance-drama

Mumbai: The trio of `Vicky Donor` -- director Shoojit Sircar, actor Ayushmann Khurrana and producer John Abraham -- are coming together for another film.
Shoojit, who is basking in the glory of `Madras Cafe`s success, is busy scripting the next film.
Earlier, media reports had said this film would have the title `Hamara Bajaj`.
"We had not given the title... It was more of a media thing. I am still working on the script. It is a romance-drama film. Apart from Ayushmann acting and John producing, nothing else is finalized," Shoojit told reporters.
In this film, Ayushmann is believed to be playing a small-town boy who aspires to be an actor.
The yet-to-be titled film is likely to be shot in Lucknow or Allahabad. It will go on floors next year.
There were also reports that Shoojit had signed Vidya Balan to play megastar Amitabh Bachchan`s daughter for another film. But he said no such film was in the pipeline.

Stop hoopla around my bikini: Aditi Rao Hydari

Mumbai: Actress Aditi Rao Hydari is tired of the hullabaloo around her bikini scene in the forthcoming film ‘Boss’. She wants people to start treating it as just another garment.
"Actually, the bikini is just another garment. I am sure every girl who swims has worn a bikini in a pool. You do wear a bikini in a pool, you don`t wear a gown! I think the hoopla around a bikini should go away because that is a wrong way to look at it," the 34-year-old said here Thursday while promoting the film at a college.
"It`s just a garment, a very beautiful garment. For a girl, to be happy with her body and her femininity is fine. In fact, I feel that everybody today should grow up and treat a bikini just as any other piece of clothing. I`ve been wearing a bikini since I was a kid, and I was very comfortable," she added.
Aditi admits she had to go through a rigorous fitness process to get a perfect bikini body.
"They (filmmakers) kept a very nice, closed set, they were very understanding. I worked out for five months and I was only thinking about when will it end and when will I be able to have a slice of pizza," Aditi said.
Directed by Anthony D`Souza, ‘Boss’ stars Akshay Kumar in the lead, while Shiv Pandit plays is paired with Aditi. The film will release Oct 16.
